Baby strawberries & mulberries
These fruits, appear very similar, and hit the markets at the same time: but they are very different. Strawberries are produced by a plant that originally grew wild in the forest; mulberry trees, with both white and black fruit, are produced by large trees. The latter have had great economic importance in Sicily because they are
cultivated for the production of the silkworm.
I frauli e ceusi niuri
‘Sta frutta, a prima vista s’assumigghia pa’ so forma, ma poi cunuscennula megghiu si viri ca sunnu ddiversi. I frauli i fannu pianticeddi nichi ‘nne voschi; inveci i ceusi bianchi e niuri, i fannu arbuli assai granni. Chisti ‘ntempi antichi vinevanu chiantati picchì sirbevanu pi’ l’innustria ra sita, ca era troppu ‘mpurtanti.
