2022 limited edition print from the 2016 Wealth of the Land exhibition.

Created from the streets of La Vucciria market in Palermo 2014-2016, these prints celebrate the fruit and vegetables of the streets. The markets, established by Arabs more than 1200 years ago sell seasonal, mostly regionally grown in Sicily.

Each of the images in the show were hand drawn digital images, based on a series of photographs taken from different angles and light sources. They each took from 40-60 hours to make.

The work in Wealth of the Land was exhibited in Palermo, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney

Chicory
This beautiful plant is prized for use in salads, or sautéed with garlic and other additives and added to pasta sauces. The palermitano word seems much closer to the original Greek kikhoreia than the French origin that English draws from.

Sta bbella virduta è bbona e si pò fari anzalata o puru vugghiuta e satata ‘nta paredda cu l’agghia, o puru ancora ca’ pasta. A tanti ‘un ci piaci picchì è amarognula.

La cicoria
Questa splendida verdura è apprezzata per essere usata in insalata, o saltata con aglio e altri ingredienti e come condimento per la pasta. La parola palermitana sembra molto piùvicina all’originale greca kikhoreia che a quella francese dalla quale trae spunto l’inglese.
